THE GIFTS HE GAVE YOU

In a world that often measures worth by talent or title, it is a profound comfort to know that you have been personally and purposefully gifted by God. This gift is not a random allocation but a specific portion of His grace, tailor-made for you. It may not be a gift that earns public applause or recognition, but it is an essential part of His design for the body of Christ. Your gift might be quiet encouragement, practical help, thoughtful administration, or heartfelt hospitality. Whatever form it takes, it is a divine endowment, given to you not as a possession to be hoarded but as a treasure to be shared.

The scripture is beautifully clear about the purpose of these gifts: they are for serving others. This simple directive reorients our entire perspective on our abilities. Your gift finds its truest expression and greatest impact when it is given away for the benefit of someone else. This is a foundational principle of a fruitful life. Fruit, by its very nature, is not for the tree that bears it, but for the nourishment of others. When you use your gift to encourage a friend, help a neighbour, or strengthen your church community, you are participating in the life-giving work of God’s kingdom and bearing fruit that will remain.

Peter describes our role as that of “faithful stewards”. A steward is someone entrusted to manage the resources of another. The gifts you have are not truly your own; they belong to God, and you have been given the privilege and responsibility of managing them well. Stewardship implies intentionality. It requires that you seek to discover your gift, take time to develop it, and look for opportunities to deploy it. It moves us beyond passive hope into active participation. Faithful stewardship is not about perfection, but about a consistent, prayerful effort to use what is in your hand for the glory of the Giver.

It is easy to fall into the trap of comparison, looking at the gifts of others and feeling that yours are insignificant. Yet God’s grace is revealed “in its various forms”, implying a beautiful and necessary diversity. The body needs every part to function in health. Do not despise the gift you have been given, and do not wait until you feel perfectly equipped. Simply begin. Offer your gift in service, however small it may seem. As you step out in faith, you will find that God multiplies your efforts, producing a harvest of grace in the lives you touch.
